It can be used as a unique system as an alternative to hot-dip galvanisation or metallisation, as a primer in a duplex system (active + passive), or as a recharging system for hot-dip galvanisation, metallisation, or previously UNIGALV-coated surfaces. It can be applied by brushing, rolling, or spraying on a clean and rough substrate in a wide range of atmospheric conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PHYSICAL DATA AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WET PRODUCT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Components:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Zinc powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aromatic hydrocarbons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Binder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Density:<\/strong> 2.67 kg\/dm\u00b3 (\u00b10.06 kg\/dm\u00b3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solid Content:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>80% by weight (\u00b12%)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>58% by volume (\u00b12%) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Type of thinner:<\/strong> Unisolv<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Flash Point:<\/strong> 47\u00b0C<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VOC:<\/strong> 474 g\/L (EPA Method 24) (=178 g\/kg) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DRY FILM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Colour:<\/strong> Grey (colour changes depending on environment &#8211; Patination)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gloss:<\/strong> Matt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zinc Content:<\/strong> 96% (\u00b11%) by weight, with a purity of 99.995%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIGALV provides full cathodic protection and conforms to standard ISO 3549 regarding its zinc purity and to standard ASTM A780 regarding its use as a repair coating for hot-dip galvanisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Special Characteristics:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Atmospheric temperature resistance of dry film:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum: -40\u00b0C<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maximum: 120\u00b0C with peaks up to 150\u00b0C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pH resistance in immersion: 5.5 pH to 9.5 pH<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pH resistance in atmospheric conditions: 3.5 pH to 12.5 pH<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent UV resistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Non-toxicity:<\/strong> A dry layer of UNIGALV is not toxic. It has been tested according to standard AS\/NSZ 4020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CONSERVATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shelf Life:<\/strong> Unlimited. In case of long-term storage, it is recommended to shake the unopened tin in an automatic shaker at least once every 3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Storage:<\/strong> Store in a cool and dry place at temperatures between 5\u00b0C and +25\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pot Life:<\/strong> If closed correctly after usage, UNIGALV will remain applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SURFACE PREPARATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cleanliness:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The metal substrate should first be degreased, preferably by steam-cleaning at 140 bar at 80\u00b0C.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After degreasing, it should be blasted to a cleanliness degree SA 2.5 according to ISO 8501-1:2007 or SSPC-SP10\/NACE No. 2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once blasting is completed, the surface should be de-dusted with non-contaminated compressed air or, in the case of wet blasting, rinsed off with clean water and dried with non-contaminated compressed air.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Roughness:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is recommended to apply UNIGALV on a metal substrate that has a roughness grade of medium G according to ISO 8503-1:2012.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This level of roughness is not needed when UNIGALV is applied on a hot-dip galvanisation or a metallisation layer or when applied on top of an existing UNIGALV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS DURING APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ambient Temperature:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum: -15\u00b0C<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maximum: 50\u00b0C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Relative Humidity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maximum: 95%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not apply on a damp or wet surface<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Surface Temperature:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum: 3\u00b0C above the dew point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maximum: 60\u00b0C<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Product Temperature:<\/strong> During application, the temperature of UNIGALV liquid should remain between 5\u00b0C and 25\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application Methods:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UNIGALV can be applied by brush, roller, conventional spray gun, or airless spraying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stirring:<\/strong> UNIGALV must be thoroughly mechanically stirred before application. Re-mixing is necessary every 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cleaning:<\/strong> Before and after use, all equipment should be rinsed with fresh Unisolv. Never use White Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DILUTION TABLE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><td><strong>Application Method<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Dilution with Unisolv<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Brush or roller<\/td><td>Up to 5%<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Conventional spray<\/td><td>Up to 15%<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Airless spray<\/td><td>Up to 7%<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COVERAGE AND CONSUMPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theoretical Coverage:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For 60 \u03bcm DFT: 3.62 m\u00b2\/kg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For 120 \u03bcm DFT: 1.81 m\u00b2\/kg <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Practical Coverage:<\/strong> Depends on the roughness profile of the substrate and the application method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DRYING PROCESS AND OVERCOATING<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drying Time at 20\u00b0C:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dust dry: 15-20 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Touch dry: 30-45 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dry to handle: 90 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fully cured: 24 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overcoating with UNIGALV:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>By brush: 1 hour after touch dry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By spray gun: 30 min after touch dry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Overcoating with a Compatible Paint:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mist coat: Applied at least 4 hours after UNIGALV is touch-dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full coat: Applied at least 2 hours after the mist coat is touch-dry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED SYSTEM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stand-alone System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UNIGALV is used as a stand-alone system, applied in a maximum of 2 layers to achieve up to 150 \u03bcm DFT.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It should not be applied at DFTs higher than 250 \u03bcm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easy maintenance: a new layer can be directly applied once the surface has been properly prepared.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duplex System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In a duplex system, UNIGALV should be applied in one single application to obtain a DFT of 60 with a maximum of 100 \u03bcm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNIGALV The Film Galvanising System UNIGALV is a one-component coating that contains 96% zinc in the dry film and provides cathodic protection of ferrous metals.
